My Story: Overcoming My Struggle with Anxiety

In university, I struggled with academic anxiety. My fear of failure was at times debilitating and got in the way with my ability to study and perform during exams.

Due to my experience, I understand  how scary and difficult it can be to work through fears. But, I also know how transformative it is to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more balanced and realistic ones.

I learned that emotions are like waves in the ocean, rising and falling away. Once I recognized and accepted that my thoughts were catastrophic and discovered key tools to manage my feelings, my entire life turned around.

I‘m no longer controlled by anxiety and worried about failing. I came to focus on what is with in my control. I’ve found a calmness that has improved the quality of all aspects of my life.

Because I like to practice what I preach, I also use these tools that helped me with my clients.

Becoming a Psychologist: Early Influences

My own experience with anxiety and my relationship with my two psychologist parents impacted my decision to become a psychologist.

My parents encouraged me to understand and share my feelings and I have always felt safe in doing so.

From an early age, I was interested in understanding the complexities of others and was eager to support them during difficult times. Also, my personal experience with anxiety led to wanting to help others with anxiety so they could grow as I have.
